Cancer cells found in the tissues of the gallbladder causes gallbladder cancer which is a rare disease. It is difficult to detect early as there are no signs or symptoms in the initial stages of the gallbladder cancer. It can be found by some of the test like liver function test, Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) assay, CA 19-9 assay, CT scan, ultrasound exam, PTC (percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography), chest x-ray, ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), laparoscopy, biopsy. Galbladder cancer can spread through tissues, lymph system and blood.
The standard treatment used for gallbladder cancer is surgery (surgical biliary bypass, endoscopic stent placement, percutaneuos transhepatic biliary drainage) radiation therapy (external radiation therapy and internal radiation therapy) and chemotherapy.
Most people with gallbladder cancer will have abdominal pain, gallbladder stones, inflammation in the abdomen, Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes), lump in the abdomen, fever, and bloating.
